Phu Cuong Soc Trang

The 1,400MW Phu Cuong Soc Trang offshore wind farm is under development since 2014 by the Phu Cuong Group (PCG) with the support of DNV GL and a grant from the US Trade and Development Agency. In 2017, global offshore developer, Mainstream Renewable Power entered a joint venture agreement with PCG to co-develop the project. Phase 1(A) and Phase 1(B) comprise 200 MW each and Phase 2, 1,000MW. When the first 400 MW phase is completed, the closest turbines to shore will be 4 km from the coast and the furthest about 15 km. The location of the Phase 2, 1,000MW extends from 20km from shore to 45km from shore.

Development Progress

The project has made considerable progress to date including wind measurements, metocean studies and geotechnical campaigns, regulatory and IFC standard environmental and social impact assessment and grid studies.
Mainstream’s Global Development Standard (GDS)

Mainstream’s Global Development Standard (GDS)

The project is being developed according to the Mainstream Global Development Standard. Mainstream’s GDS is an in-house project development system designed by the company`s expert team to ensure projects are developed methodically and delivered on time, on budget and safely in line with best international practice. The Standard is benchmarked against IFC Environmental and Social Standards and the Equator Principles.

Comprehensive Project Development

In addition to complying with the Vietnamese regulatory process for the submission of an Environmental Impact Assessment, the team is preparing an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). The ESIA complies with the IFC’s Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability (2012) and provides further detailed information on the environmental and social impacts of the offshore wind farm development.
